Moving my blog

I’ve been ‘playing’ with Blogger, and think I really like it better.  So I’m moving my blog over. I’ll leave this one up. I tried to move my posts, but it wasn’t very cooperative. The new blog is at http://the5thdecade.blogspot.com/. I’m also going to try to post more often.

My Favorite Salad

My favorite Salad has been named the Worst Salad of 2009 by “Men’s Health, Eat This, Not That” . No more salads at Friday’s. May as have real food.
15. Worst Salad of 2009

T.G.I. Fridays Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad
1,360 calories
Fat: unknown (The company refuses to disclose the nutritional content of the food they’re serving you.)
Sodium: unknown

Turns out Friday’s monster salads aren’t much better than their burgers. Six out of the seven we analyzed topped out with more than 900 calories, which means that lunchtime can be the start of something big—namely, your belly.

Bathroom Re-do

I’d bought new ‘stuff’ for the bathroom a few weeks ago. Today I finally got around to painting an accent wall.photo

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle

This was an Oprah book club pick, but I didn’t like it. It was slow in the beginning, slow in the middle and slow at the end. I kept reading because I kept thinking it would get better.  It must appeal to some people, but not to me.  Next, Scarpetta. Which I’m pretty sure I will enjoy.

Cosmo Cricut Give-away

Leah is giving a way $150 worth of Cosmo Cricut on her blog. Hope I win, but here’s the link if you want to try your luck:

Finally finished my drapes

I started re-decorating my bedroom ages ago. Bought the bedspread and drapes. But my top window is odd, so I had to alter some of the drapes to fit it. Did the first one ages ago, but finally today did the second one. And got my 8′ ladder out of my room!

Nancy Drew

I loved the Nancy Drew books as a 12 (or so) year old. Read them all. So I decided to watch the movie on DVD.  Really, really corny. Now I’m thinking about going back and reading one of the books again to see if it was as corny. Or if the movie just didn’t translate.

Fort Worth Zoo

Gosh, I haven’t posted in ages. I’ve been busy, just not posting. Today I went with a group of friends to the Fort Worth Zoo. It was fun to go through without kids. It was a beautiful day. Got a little warm towards the end. We even saw a horny toad and an armadillo (that wasn’t road kill). We also rode the train for a different perspective. Afterwards we went to Panera Bread for lunch. I had a Bacon Turkey Bravo and an apple. Very good.

Scrapbook Room

I’ve been meaning to post pictures of my somewhat recently redone scrapbook room. Finally getting around to it.

From left to right are my closet, the lower shelves and file cabinet, my computer/office desk, my TV and scrapbook desk (with my Cricut barely showing beneath), the upper shelves, and my window. All the shelving is Elfa from The Container Store.

A Thousand Splendid Suns

My book club read A Thousand Splendid Suns. Like my last post on Charlie’s Wilson War, it made me wonder where I was in the 80′s and 90′s. This book is about two women in Afghanistan and their lives. And it interweaves quite a bit of Afghani history and lifestyles. Our book club meeting was enhanced by a women who had just come back from duty in Afghanistan and had some items we could look at. And she filled us in a little on what life if like now for the people of that country. I really do have blinders on. But maybe they are starting to come off. About time.
